College Basketball Odds, SGP Picks, Predictions: Will UNC Upset Clemson?

Clemson UNC Odds

Among Monday’s college basketball odds, the No. 23 Clemson Tigers (19-5, 11-2) host the North Carolina Tar Heels (14-10, 7-5) at Littlejohn Coliseum. Neither team finds itself in my college basketball power rankings, but the Tigers opened as hefty 6.5-point favorites after Saturday’s upset win over Duke. Let’s assess the odds and my favorite bet for UNC at Clemson, including options for your same-game parlay.

monday’s college basketball best bets: unc ats

With ACC play heating up, I’ve circled this matchup as a buy-low, sell-high spot. If you’re unfamiliar with situational spots, they aim to uncover conditions in which teams have surpassed or fallen short of their usual production — relative to the moneyline or point spread.

Less than 48 hours ago, the Tigers secured their biggest victory of the season. However, a potential letdown is in store versus a Tar Heels squad fighting for its NCAA tournament hopes.

For reference, UNC is 7-16-1 against the spread (ATS), losing four of its last six games straight up. Hence, bettors are backing this team at the bottom of its market value.

In all likelihood, the Tar Heels will play with a sense of desperation, attempting to add a marquee win to their bleak resume.

UNC at Clemson: Matchup Edges

UNC’s Jekyll and Hyde shooting makes it an aggravating team to watch, but there’s some positive regression on deck. During the stretch mentioned above, the Tar Heels have compiled a 32.3% clip from behind the arc. Meanwhile, their opponents boast a 40.3% clip on 3-point attempts.

Additionally, the Tar Heels’ prowess on the defensive glass will pay dividends against the Tigers, which rank 44th nationally in potential quick points scored from the offensive glass versus the average opponent (via Haslametrics).

If UNC can limit Clemson’s second-chance opportunities, it should excel in transition. R.J. Davis and Co.’s fast-break efficiency grades in the 90th percentile on a points-per-possession (PPP) basis — an area the Tigers struggle mightily to defend.

I expect Hubert Davis’ bunch to hang around throughout and potentially pull off the outright upset.
