With Big Ten play heating up, I’ve circled this matchup as a buy-low, sell-high spot. If you’re unfamiliar with situational spots, they attempt to uncover conditions in which teams have exceeded or fallen short of their usual performance level — relative to the moneyline or point spread.

Wisconsin has won five straight, covering all but one against the spread. Its last three wins came by an average of 18 points per game. Over that stretch, the Badgers have shot 48.1% from behind the arc, with their opponents tallying a 33.1% clip. While Greg Gard’s team boasts its most explosive offense in recent memory, those are unsustainable shooting splits.

Even with combo guard Max Klesmit (ankle/foot) expected to return after missing Friday’s rout of Minnesota, my raw numbers show this spread is slightly inflated.

Enter Ohio State, which has dropped two of its last three games. Bruce Thornton and Co. handed Oregon a win after owning a 90.8% win probability with 6:17 remaining. They should be motivated to rebound, and they have a notable mismatch versus the Badgers’ drop coverage.

Ohio State settles in the 74th percentile of mid-range frequency (via CBB Analytics). Wisconsin’s defense is most vulnerable in this area with its dual-big lineup. In particular, the Buckeyes’ action for the pick-and-roll ball handler ranks in the 98th percentile on a points-per-possession (PPP) basis, leading to those looks.

Conversely, their frontcourt grades above the D-I average against post-up touches, which is a staple for Badgers center Steven Crowl.
