2023 College Basketball Odds: Invest in Florida
Before betting the 2023 college basketball futures market, I’d normally wait until the transfer portal pans out a bit more. But per a source, Gators center Colin Castleton will likely return to the program under their new staff.
Even if the report is close to 70% accurate, +12000 on FanDuel Sportsbook won’t be available in November. Moreover, Castleton is an elite-level, two-way big and won’t be under the guidance of the inept Mike White, who moved on to Georgia.
Castleton will instead suit up for Todd Golden — the San Francisco-turned-Florida coach — who represents an up-and-coming lead dog across Division I.
One previous coach in the same mold was now-Texas coach Chris Beard. Six years ago, Beard shifted from Little Rock to Texas Tech. The Red Raiders finished as the national runners-up two seasons later.
But Golden’s timeline for success with the Gators could come even sooner. They’re bringing back promising forward Kowacie Reeves and veteran guard Myreon Jones. On top of that, Belmont transfer Will Richard committed to the team on Saturday afternoon.
The 6-foot-5 Richard is a defensive ballhawk, tallying a top-440 individual block and steal rate. He also presents his fair share of scoring upside.
Keep in mind, Bruce Pearl’s former assistant operates a transition-driven, five-out motion offense while pressuring the rock at the other end. He developed Jamarea Bouyea into a potential NBA draft pick, along with helping the Dons deliver the 26th-ranked Adjusted Defensive Efficiency (AdjD) in college basketball.
Adjusted Efficiency accounts for the estimate efficiency (points scored or allowed per 100 possessions) a team would accrue or allow against the average Division I opponent.
With more promising transfers en route, Florida possesses the potential to make a massive jump during Golden’s first season in the swamp.
