College Basketball Best Bets

Following one of the best games of the season in Kansas-Texas Tech, Tuesday’s college basketball slate shouldn’t disappoint either with 10 ranked squads in action. Let’s dive into my college basketball best bets for Auburn at Missouri — the Tigers’ first matchup as the No. 1 ranked team in program history.

No. 1 Auburn Tigers at Missouri Tigers

Bruce Pearl’s unit sits atop my college basketball power rankings while coming off its most impressive win of the season, covering against Kentucky on Saturday. Not only could a letdown be in store, but Auburn now faces a Missouri bunch that’s racked up quality wins against Alabama and at Ole Miss.

According to ShotQuality, the Tigers are generating the third-highest defensive rebounding rate in SEC play. Cuonzo Martin’s frontcourt possesses the length to challenge Auburn’s Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler, and it’ll slow down the tempo if it’s able to hold its own on the glass.

That, in turn, would minimize the total number of possessions while helping Mizzou hang within a larger spread.

Moreover, Martin’s perimeter-oriented defense is positioned well against an offense that relies on off-the-dribble 3s at the highest rate in-conference. The Tigers’ transition defense is another story, yet K.D. Johnson & Co. will likely struggle to produce clean looks around the arc in half-court sets.

At the other end, Missouri presents the third-worst offensive spacing in Division I, allowing opponents to collapse on-ball late in the possession. But Auburn’s most glaring liability is defending post-ups, which the home underdog is converting at a higher percentage versus SEC competition. The Tigers need Kobe Brown & Co. to deliver some efficiency for their perimeter offense to open up.

This bet is not for the faint of heart, but we’re plugging our noses in what’s set up to be Mizzou’s Super Bowl.
