Auburn Tigers at Arkansas Razorbacks

Bruce Pearl’s unit is on a 19-game winning streak —the longest in the country — but it’s outperformed its metrics by a three victories (via ShotQuality). I’m expecting some offensive regression from the road team in this contest.

Even though Auburn possesses an overall size advantage, Arkansas presents the athleticism to switch at almost every position within its pressure defense, limiting opponents’ paint touches in the process. Led by center Jaylin Williams, four of its five starters stand at 6-foot-6 or taller.

If Tigers point guard Zep Jasper (illness) remains out, their turnover issues could continue against Musselman’s set-up. They tallied 14 of them in Saturday’s last-second win at Georgia.

When teams find gaps near the rim, the Razorbacks boast a top-four interior defense in the SEC and are particularly efficient at defending post-ups. Expect Jabari Smith, who’s the potential No. 1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, to struggle against another frontcourt that aims to limit him from utilizing his athletic frame.

On top of that, Arkansas tallies the conference’s second-highest defensive rebounding rate. That effort will be vital against an Auburn bunch that’s accruing the 24th-highest second-chance conversion percentage (via Haslametrics).

The Hogs should be in for their own regression from behind the arc. Despite shooting just 32.5% from 3-point land, Auburn surrenders plenty of open shots in that department. If JD Notate & Co. rack up enough transition opportunities, the perimeter looks will be there.

Let’s sell-high on the No. 1 Tigers and back the Hogs’ eight-game winning streak in a motivational spot.
