Sure, college football odds are garnering most bettors’ attention. But don’t let that distract you from Saturday’s loaded college basketball odds board, which includes the No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Let’s dig into my college basketball matchup for this Big 10 clash.

Prime Letdown Spot?

Indiana is coming off a massive home victory against North Carolina on Wednesday, in which the Hoosiers outscored UNC 50-24 in the paint. Led by Wooden Award candidate Trayce Jackson-Davis (), Mike Woodson’s team is adept at attacking the rim in both half-court sets and in transition.

Granted, the Tar Heels have been susceptible to allowing efficient shots down low. They’ve also been a train wreck of late. Indiana won’t take Rutgers lightly, either, as it’s lost five straight to the Scarlet Knights.

But there’s still something to that trend. The defensive-minded Steve Pickell focuses on limiting an opponent’s scoring opportunities near the basket. In fact, Rutgers is surrendering the 26th-fewest ShotQuality PPP at the rim this season.

If Cliff Omoruyi, Mawot Mag & Co. stymie Trayce Jackson-Davis inside, the Hoosiers will be forced to rely on contested shot-making more often than they’d like. They’re due for some regression in that department, too, especially from behind the arc (36.7%).

On top of that, the Scarlet Knights boast 6-foot-6 forward Caleb McConnell, the 2022 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. After missing their first four games with a knee injury, McConnell has worked his way back to a full complement of minutes. He’ll be a factor in slowing down in veteran point guard Xavier Johnson.

Whether or not lead guard Paul Mulcahy (shoulder) returns, Rutgers is heavily reliant on fast-break scoring. That could spell doom against one of the premier defenses across DI. However, the home-court advantage in J̶e̶r̶s̶e̶y̶ ̶M̶i̶k̶e̶’̶s̶ ̶A̶r̶e̶n̶a̶ the RAC provides a significant edge that can’t be ignored.

College Basketball Best Bets Conclusion

If you check our Discord betting channel, you’ll see that Rutgers +4 was placed this morning. I’d bet this down to +3.5. Good luck with your own college basketball wagers.
