When will Christian McCaffrey be back and return to Panthers?

NFL fans have been asking when will Christian McCaffrey be back and return to the Panthers since he was forced to go into the dreaded blue tent on Thursday Night Football. It was though earlier this month that CMC was on track to return in Week 7 against the Giants or Week 8 against Atlanta, but the timetable has been pushed back. The Panthers placed McCaffrey on injured reserve on Oct. 16, meaning that the RB will not be eligible to return until Week 9 when the Panthers host the Patriots.

UPDATE: The Panthers designated McCaffrey to return from IR and the RB will play Sunday against New England.

“Hopefully it’s this week. If not this week, then next week,” Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Monday. “Obviously he’s one of the best players in football. He brings something.”

Here is a look at the timetable with potential return dates.

  • Week 9 Sunday, Nov. 7 vs. Patriots
  • Week 10 Sunday, Nov. 14 at Cardinals
  • Week 11 Sunday, Nov. 21 vs. Washington

McCaffrey had been practicing with the Panthers in recent weeks but the Carolina medical staff is erring on the side of caution after CMC still felt the injury while trying to go full tilt.

There are a wide range of recovery times for hamstring injuries. A Grade 1 hamstring injury typically takes a few days to 2 weeks to fully heal, while a Grade 2 injury takes a little more than a couple of weeks, according to Valencia Sports Medicine.

Christian McCaffrey props

Christian McCaffrey is always in the MVP conversation at the start of the season despite a running back not having won the award since Adrian Peterson in 2012. CMC was +5000 to win NFL MVP at FanDuel Sportsbook back on Aug. 30. Those odds were tied with Titans RB Derrick Henry for the lowest for a non-QB. Most sportsbooks have taken McCaffrey props off the board with his official return date still in doubt.

As for CMC’s season over under props, he was set at 1200.5 rushing yards at DraftKings back on Aug. 11. His season rushing TD prop was at 11.5 and his scrimmage yards total was set at 1850.5. McCaffrey has 201 yards rushing on 52 carries on the year, so eclipsing the 1200.5 mark will truly be tough. He has 1 rushing TD on the year so far.

As far as total scrimmage, CMC already has 364 yards amassed.

Panthers odds

The Panthers could surely use their top player right about now as they have dropped four straight after a 3-0 start. Carolina had opened at +6000 to win the 2022 Super Bowl and they are currently .

Matt Rhule’s crew is in a rugged division with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints and are currently to win the NFC South.
