When will Chris Olave return to the field for the Saints?
Many fantasy football owners are searching for an injury update for New Orleans’ star weapon. When may Olave return to the field for the Saints?
The organization is optimistic that he will suit up after his stint on injured reserve, which will cost him at least four weeks. He already missed one against the Falcons, in which the Saints snapped their seven-game losing skid. Olave suffered his second concussion of the season against the Panthers in Week 9.
Here is New Orleans’ schedule the rest of the way:
- Sunday, Nov. 17 (Week 11): Browns
- Sunday, Nov. 24 (Week 12): Bye
- Sunday, Dec. 1 (Week 13): Rams
- Sunday, Dec. 8 (Week 14): at Giants
- Sunday, Dec. 15 (Week 15): Commanders
- Monday, Dec. 23 (Week 16): at Packers
- Sunday, Dec. 29 (Week 17): Raiders
- Sunday, Jan. 5 (Week 18): at Buccaneers
Olave could reemerge by Week 14, with the Saints traveling to face the lowly Giants. In the meantime, former Chiefs wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling has developed a sound connection with Derek Carr. The two hooked up for a pair of scores in their upset victory over the Falcons in Week 10. Valdes-Scantling tallied 103 receiving yards in his first game with New Orleans.
How long will Chris Olave remain out?
Not only are concussions generally difficult to evaluate, but the injury that Olave sustained in Carolina is the fourth official concussion of his NFL career. Olave, who was drafted 11th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, experienced his first NFL concussion during his rookie season. He already had a history of head injuries, dealing with a concussion in 2020 while with the Buckeyes.
New Orleans has lost seven of its past eight games after starting the season 2-0. At 3-7, the Saints are tied for last place in the division. Even if they manage to go on a run, their Week 4 loss in Atlanta would loom large in terms of potential tiebreakers.
If Olave doesn’t return soon and start helping to deliver some wins, their season could end early. He’s compiled 32 catches for 400 receiving yards and a touchdown after notching consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.
Our best guess is that Olave could miss more than three games if New Orleans endures another losing streak.
