Before the NBA summer league tipped off on Tuesday evening, Paolo Banchero — the first overall pick in the 2022 draft — was the consensus favorite to win the 2023 Rookie of the Year award. But Chet Holmgren odds were adjusted after his performance in Salt Lake City.

Chet Holmgren Odds: Favored At FanDuel Sportsbook
The 7-foot-1 Gonzaga product dazzled for the Oklahoma City Thunder, tallying 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting and a summer league record six blocks. He’s also the first player with five blocks and four 3-pointers in any summer league game all-time.
As a result, Holmgren is now the favorite (+360 at FanDuel) to win rookie of the year after opening at +500, leapfrogging Banchero (+440) in the process. Mind you, the pair of one-time college basketball stars were selected consecutively in the NBA draft.
Holmgren’s sample size is only one summer league game, so the odds alteration may not be warranted in the end. But his skill set was on full display while showcasing the “unicorn” label that he developed during the draft process.
Here is the entire 2023 NBA Rookie of the Year odds board. Banchero is still the favorite at a few sportsbooks, but Holmgren is inching closer after his dominant performance. For one, he’s tied with Jabari Smith (+400) for the second-shortest price tag at Caesars.
Before Holmgren’s summer league tour began, Jaden Ivey (+700) was a popular bet after the Detroit Pistons nabbed him with fifth overall selection. In fact, he’s the biggest liability to win the award at BetMGM Sportsbook while Holmgren has taken the most money.
Ivey joins Cade Cunningham, Sadiq Bey and fellow 2022 pick Jalen Duren, forming one of the more intriguing rosters entering the 2022-23 campaign.
