Chet Holmgren Produces Odds Shift

After tallying 14.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 2.0 steals per game amid his Summer League stint in July, Holmgren sat at +700 to win the award. Meanwhile, Paolo Banchero, who generate quite a bit of controversy during the NBA draft, was listed as the favorite at +200.

Even though Holmgren also shot 42.3% from behind the arc in the Summer League, his 7-foot-1, 195-pound was consistently pushed around against bigger rookies. Despite his sound rim protection, the Gonzaga product will have to wait until next year to showcase his possible refinements.

As a result of Holmgren’s absence, fellow rookies Keegan Murray and Jaden Ivey both saw their odds shorten up to roughly +500. Murray, who was selected fourth overall by the Sacramento Kings, took home the Summer League MVP. He averaged 23 points, 7.3 assists, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals in the process.

The former Iowa forward will share the floor with a talented cast — headlined by two-time NBA All-Star Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox.

Meanwhile, Ivey — taken right behind Murray by the Detroit Pistons — delivered 15.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in Summer League play. He’ll join Cade Cunningham, Sadiq Bey and fellow 2022 pick Jalen Duren to form one of the more youthful and intriguing lineups next season.
