College Football Playoff Odds & Sugar Bowl Picks: Bet On Total In Georgia – Notre Dame?
As noted in our look-ahead lines article, Notre Dame was favored for this quarterfinal meeting against Georgia before its win over Indiana. The initial point spread also sided with the Fighting Irish, but the market shifted toward Georgia shortly after the betting odds reopened. The Bulldogs are currently Georgia Bulldogs +12.5 (-115) on DraftKings spread favorites — with a total of 36.5 (-110) on DraftKings. Let’s handicap the odds for Georgia vs. Notre Dame, including my best bet.

Notre Dame’s offense flourished this season, partly thanks to a significant talent advantage in each game. However, that isn’t the case in the Sugar Bowl. With roughly an extra week to prepare, I expect Georgia coach Kirby Smart to scheme a defensive game plan that can stymie the Irish’s rushing-centric offense.
The Bulldogs rank eighth in EPA per carry allowed and 24th in defensive success rate versus the run. Notre Dame will look to establish its ground game, as 55.2% of its plays are rushing attempts, tallying 35.6 carries per game. Generating a consistent push at the line of scrimmage won’t be arduous, considering Georgia’s front seven is 21st in defensive havoc.
Suppose Jeremiah Love and Co. fail to produce many efficient touches. In that case, the Bulldogs should have a clear path to expose the arm talent (or lack thereof) via dual-threat quarterback Riley Leonard.
Conversely, backup signal-caller Gunner Stockton will get the nod for the injured Carson Beck (UCL surgery). Stockton has 62 dropbacks to his name, 20 of which came against Texas in the SEC Championship. In that matchup, he completed 12 passes for 4.4 yards per attempt (YPA), including a fourth-quarter interception that nearly cost the Bulldogs the win.
Georgia’s rushing attack isn’t ultra-effective on paper. Still, the absence of Irish defensive line Rylie Mills, who suffered a knee injury in the first-round win, is a significant factor to monitor. Although Notre Dame ranks 12th in explosive rushes allowed per tilt, Bulldogs running back Trevor Etienne found enough space against Texas’ similarly built defensive front in both meetings.
