2022 CFL Grey Cup Odds
The Blue Bombers and Stampeders are the class of the league, with Zach Collaros and Bo Levi Mitchell, two of the elite signal callers in the sport, leading elite offences that can dominate when it matters. Collaros’ performance in the clutch in the Grey Cup justifies the Blue Bombers’ place as the easy favourites, having won the last two Grey Cups played.
That said, Calgary does have Mitchell, one of the best quarterbacks in the CFL’s modern era, and they can show up any week and dominate any team. Those two are the easily two best teams in the league, and the West’s Grey Cup spot coming from outside of them would constitute a huge shock.
The Ticats are easily the best team in the East, and their price as the fifth best team in the league is absurdist nonsense.
With a +68 point differential in 2021, the Ticats were hummin last year, and suffered from bad luck in close games to only go 8-6. Their only potential concern is whether Dane Evans, who spent last year in a quarterback rotation, can hold up as the full time starter, now that they’ve let Jeremiah Masoli go to Ottawa.
Given the strength at the top of the West, it’s unlikely the Lions, Elks, or Roughriders will be able to contend, meaning the only valuable longshots are Montreal or Ottawa. And while Montreal’s 2021 was substantially better, Ottawa’s offseason suggests they could springboard up the standings.
Getting Masoli in the summer alleviates the rotating door that Ottawa has had in recent years at Quarterback, and they’ve had success with these sorts of established, veteran quarterbacks coming into town and winning, making two straight Grey Cups with CFL legend Henry Burris at the pivot spot.
Yes, their 2021 was a disaster, but with an offence that couldn’t do anything to save their lives, their defence was hung out to dry, and with Masoli, that won’t happen again.
