College Football Week 7 Betting Report: Five Undervalued & Five Overvalued Teams

We have enough information at this point that market trends are developing and can be used when determining which teams may offer value for our College Football betting in Week 7.
Some teams have consistently beaten sportsbook expectations, while others have struggled to cover. Against the spread (ATS) records don’t automatically equal betting value, but they tell us what’s happened up until this point.
The main question that needs to be answered is “Are sportsbooks still undervaluing or overvaluing these teams, or has the market properly adjusted?”
We’ll look at some of the following to find those answers:
- ATS record
- Average cover margin
- Scoring margin
- Strength of schedule
- Recent performance
- Advanced efficiency
- Week 7 line
Once again, ATS records don’t automatically mean you should bet or fade a team. They’re simply a useful way to measure how teams have performed relative to the betting market.
How We Identify Undervalued & Overvalued College Football Teams
College football ATS records are one of the most important tools in telling us how often a team beats sportsbooks expectations. They’re more useful in determining betting value than straight-up records.
The scoring and average cover margins also give us insight. Scoring margin shows actual dominance, while average cover margin shows us how decisively a team beat or missed the spread.
Advanced metrics, including EPA/play, success rate, explosive-play rate, turnover margin, and red-zone efficiency can tell us how well teams are playing compared to scores. Their strength of schedule is another important aspect, as dominating elite competition is more impressive than dominating a weak schedule.
Five Undervalued College Football Teams Entering Week 7
Here are five undervalued teams to consider when betting college football in Week 7.
1. BYU Cougars
- SU Record: 5-0
- ATS Record: 5-0
BYU’s consistently been underrated throughout the season, and they’re double-digit home underdogs this week. Notre Dame’s looked outstanding in 2026, but we’ve already seen them fail to cover spreads against UNC and Michigan State.
The biggest concern for the Cougars is that star running back LJ Martin is injured and won’t play. He missed most of the game against TCU and didn’t play against Iowa State last week, though, and BYU covered in both games.
Star quarterback Bear Bachmeier is being used more in the running game, rushing for 64 yards on 12 carries in his first three games before recording 175 yards on 24 carries since the Martin injury.
2. Missouri Tigers
- SU Record: 5-1
- ATS Record: 3-3
Missouri’s full-season ATS record is average, but they’re trending in the right direction. They’ve easily covered in their last two games, beating the spread by an average of 25 points per game.
Two of the Tigers’ ATS losses came in games where they were favored by more than 25 points. They own a 3-1 ATS record in games with single-digit spreads.
The spread is already shifting toward Mizzou since it opened, and their ability to control the game with the run or pass gives them an offensive edge most teams don’t have.
3. Mississippi State Bulldogs
- SU Record: 4-1
- ATS Record: 4-1
Mississippi State had an excellent betting profile early this season, going 4-0 ATS and easily covering in their games. They stumbled against Alabama, though, losing by 33 as a 5.5-point underdog. We’re likely looking at a bit of an overreaction in a game where Kamario Taylor was dealing with an injury.
The Bulldogs also had an extra week to prepare for this game, while figuring out what went wrong against Bama. A team that was as dominant as Mississippi State in their first four games shouldn’t be a near-two-touchdown underdog, even on the road.
4. UCLA Bruins
- SU Record: 5-0
- ATS Record: 5-0
UCLA’s been arguably the most underrated team throughout the season, posting several impressive wins. They’re coming off an outright win as 10.5-point underdogs against Oregon. They’re beating the spread by nearly 17 points per game in 2026.
The Bruins are only 3.5-point favorites at home against Wisconsin this week. This is likely due to Nico Iamaleava dealing with an injury. He left the game against Oregon, and it’s unknown if he’s going to play.
Still, UCLA ranks second in college football in turnover margin (+2.4) per game, and they feature an elite rushing attack.
UPDATE: Nico Iamaleava has been ruled out for this week [and potentially the rest of the season].
5. North Carolina Tar Heels
- SU Record: 3-2
- ATS Record: 3-2
UNC is another team that’s consistently been undervalued this season. They have outright wins as underdogs against TCU and Pitt. They also easily covered as big underdogs in an 11-point loss to Notre Dame a couple of weeks ago.
North Carolina’s two issues against the spread came in a big win against ETSU, where they were 36.5-point favorites, and a game against Clemson where they waited out a six-hour weather delay.
The Tar Heels are now getting a field goal in a road matchup against rival Duke. They’ve performed well against quality opponents, and they’ll get another chance on Saturday.
Five Overvalued College Football Teams Entering Week 7
Here are five overvalued teams to consider avoiding when betting college football in Week 7.
6. Texas Longhorns
- SU Record: 4-1
- ATS Record: 1-4
Texas is enjoying a solid season, although they’re coming off a disappointing loss to Oklahoma. They’re still winning games, but they aren’t covering the spread in those games, producing one of the clearest negative college football ATS trends this season.
They dominated Texas State to start the season, but they’ve gone 0-4 ATS since then. They’ve won two close games against Ohio State and Tennessee, but they failed to dominate UTSA as 29.5-point favorites.
This is a bounce-back spot against Florida, who’s coming off two terrible losses in their own right. Still, Texas has been overvalued throughout the season, and they own a double-digit spread once again.
7. LSU Tigers
- SU Record: 4-2
- ATS Record: 2-4
Similar to Texas, LSU is in a strong bounce-back spot here, but their numbers are still worrisome. Their numbers are propped up by a huge win against Clemson early in the season, but they’ve struggled since then.
The Tigers dominated Texas A&M a few weeks ago, but they’ve also lost outright as a favorite against both Ole Miss and Kentucky. The loss against Kentucky last week creates an interesting must-win home game this week, but they still need to win by nearly two touchdowns.
This team has one of the widest ranges of outcomes in the NCAA, but they’re likely still getting some love because of their name and dominant performance against Clemson.
8. Penn State Nittany Lions
- SU Record: 3-3
- ATS Record: 2-4
Penn State found some success early in the 2026 season, but they’ve been awful in Big Ten play. They own a 0-3 ATS record in three Big Ten games, losing all three outright as favorites.
Excluding a win against Oklahoma, Michigan hasn’t looked good either, which could be why this spread is within one touchdown. Excluding Penn State’s brand value, there isn’t much reason to expect they’re going to turn their season around.
9. Ole Miss Rebels
- SU Record: 4-1
- ATS Record: 2-3
Ole Miss struggled against the spread early in the season, going 1-3 before dominating Vanderbilt last week. They easily covered, winning the game by 35 points. We could be looking at an overcorrection for the Rebels after losing by 24 as small underdogs against Florida the week before.
Surprisingly, Ole Miss hasn’t featured an explosive offense this season, recording only a 4.3% explosive rate. They’re giving up a 5.6% explosive rate to their opponents, which is generally a bad sign for future success.
Missouri is coming into this game with two dominant performances, and this should be an important SEC showdown.
10. Indiana Hoosiers
- SU Record: 6-0
- ATS Record: 1-5
Indiana struggled to beat big spreads early in the season, which isn’t necessarily overly meaningful. The bigger issue is that they’ve struggled to beat spreads against Northwestern and Nebraska.
Josh Hoover’s performed well enough thus far, but his Heisman odds have tanked. He hasn’t taken over this offense the same way as Fernando Mendoza, and it’s caused issues at times.
Indiana hasn’t played against elite competition at this point in the season, and they’re small underdogs against Ohio State this week. The spread is shifting toward Ohio State, and this will be a chance to show they aren’t as undervalued as most believe.
How to Use College Football ATS Trends When Betting Week 7
ATS records measure how teams have previously performed relative to sportsbook expectations. Past ATS success doesn’t automatically dictate future covers. These trends should be used to help identify why the team is undervalued or overvalued.
There are several factors that need to be considered with these trends:
- Has the market already adjusted?
- Has the spread moved since opening?
- Have injuries changed the team/depth chart?
- Are recent changes sustainable?
- How are their advanced metrics compared to their actual results?
When betting spreads, the goal isn’t finding the team most likely to win. It’s determining whether the sportsbook spread accurately reflects the difference between the two teams.
