Biggest Remaining Position Needs
The Cardinals’ top positional needs include DL, EDGE, guard, center and cornerback. So … a lot. The Cardinals are in a unique position to stockpile draft picks, given that they don’t need a quarterback, and teams behind may be eyeing one. The Colts, Raiders and Titans have all been connected to trade-up rumors or the QB draft market this offseason. All of them are in dire need of a franchise quarterback for the future.
Let’s dive into some scenarios where the Cardinals move back in the draft.

Cardinals NFL Draft Trade-Back Options
If the Colts move up a spot and swap with the Cardinals, Arizona’s No. 2 defensive player would still be on the board, at worst. The team has a massive need at EDGE following Watt’s retirement and Allen moving on in free agency. Watt finished last season with 12.5 sacks and was 18th in the NFL in total pressures, notching 31. The Cardinals projected starting edge rushers Jonathan Ledbetter and Myjai Sanders combined for four sacks last season. Adding Anderson to the mix would be an instant upgrade and presumably replace some of Watt and Allen’s production from a year ago.
If the Raiders make a move and swap the No. 7 selection for the No. 3, the Cardinals have many options. They’d likely still have edge rusher in play, but they’d also be in a prime position to draft a cornerback. With the loss of Murphy to Minnesota in free agency, Arizona’s depth at cornerback could be better. Marco Wilson can play outside, but he would be best suited at the nickleback spot. If the Cardinals make this swap with the Raiders, they could have one of the top of cornerbacks on the board in Devon Witherspoon or Christian Gonzalez.
An outside shot at a trade exists between the Cardinals and Titans. Tennessee holds the No. 11 pick in the draft, and Ryan Tannehill would only have a $9 million cap hit in 2024 if the team cuts him after this season. Remember that new Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort worked in the front office for the Titans from 2020-22. Tennessee is motivated to grab a quarterback, given their division rival Jaguars have Trevor Lawrence. The Colts being ahead of them and meeting with quarterbacks is another motivating factor.
CONCLUSION
The trade-down scenarios for the Cardinals make this difficult to predict. We have no idea if Arizona will still be picking at No. 3 or not. The latest rumors swirling are that the Cardinals may even go offensive lineman. Paris Johnson has seen his odds go from double digits to +400 to be the No. 3 pick in recent days. The Ohio State tackle is another name that would theoretically be there if Arizona trades down.
It’s truly a guessing game at pick No. 3.
