We’ve got details of some of their best packs here, including Pokemon Starter Packs, Sports Packs for certain sports like baseball and basketball, and Wildcard Master Packs. You can also pick up some tips on how to compare packs. You can compare prices and odds to find the best ones at Courtyard to help build your trading card collection.
What is Courtyard?
The first question plenty of people have when they come across the site is, how does Courtyard work, so we’ll answer that briefly here. Courtyard is a mystery box website, but we’re focusing on their trading card mystery packs here. Aside from those, you can buy mystery packs containing sneakers or watches instead.
The idea is that you buy a pack or mystery box for a given price. You then open or rip it to reveal what’s inside. You can get the item shipped to you if you’re happy with it. Alternatively, you can sell it back to Courtyard. A third option gives you the chance to list it on the Courtyard marketplace - and it costs you nothing to do so. You can also have your trading cards safely stored in the Courtyard vault.
Examples of the best Courtyard packs to pull
We’re here to find some of the best packs you can get from the Courtyard website. Of course, we all have different ideas about what constitutes the best pack. We might be looking for baseball trading cards, whereas you could be a Pokemon fan instead. We’ve listed a few possibilities to watch out for below.
Pokemon Starter Pack
This is a good pack if you’re a newbie and you’re just starting out with Pokemon trading cards. This Starter Pack is the cheapest of the lot at $25. You’ll get one graded Pokemon card per pack, the value of which could be higher or lower than the amount you paid to reveal it. Hence why it’s good for those just starting their Pokemon collections.
One Piece Ultra Pack
The average pack value here when you reveal the contents is $240, and you’ll need to part with $250 to open it. The lowest-valued reveal is $176.40, with just 0.2% of cards worth between $1k and $4k. You’ve got a 20% chance of pulling a One Piece card worth between $250 and $500, which is worth thinking about.
Sports Mythic Pack
This is one of nine pack options in the general sports category at Courtyard. They want a cool $5k for this, so you can imagine it could potentially contain some of the most valuable trading cards in the sports arena. Remember that the sports category packs could contain a card aligned with any sport. It’s best, then, for card collectors with trading cards for several sports rather than one.
Wildcard Master Packs
Here’s where things get interesting. These packs truly are wildcards - you could rip one and find anything inside. It could be a Pokemon card, a baseball card, a One Piece card… you simply never know. You might be fortunate and reveal a sealed pack in some cases. The Wildcard Basic Pack is up for $15, with seven more options to choose from after that. Those range up to the Wildcard Legend Pack for $2,500.
Specific Sports Packs
We’ve already mentioned Sports Packs that mix all the sports together, meaning you could pull anything. You can also go for a specific Sports Pack. We’ve listed all the available sports in this table, along with the available pack options and examples. If you want to rip some cards for a particular sport, you can do a Courtyard pack comparison first to see what’s available.

Tips for making Courtyard pack comparisons
There are ways of getting a Courtyard free pack occasionally, such as via the VIP program and points collection efforts. Ripping a free pack is always welcome, but what about when you’re paying for it? Use these tips to help you decide on the best pack each time.
Compare the available pack prices
Courtyard lists all available pack options for each trading card category. As we’ve seen, some categories have more packs available than others. In every case, you’ll see a different price for each pack. This matches the format at other trading card sites including Arena Club, where you can also look for an Arena Club free pack occasionally.
For example, you can choose from three Magic the Gathering card packs priced from $10 to $50. However, there are 10 basketball card packs to choose from. Those go from $15 up to a whopping $5,000. In every case, you need to work out what you’re happy to pay to rip a mystery pack.
Check the average item value per pack
Click the distribution message with the down arrow next to it to reveal more info. The small print will give you the average value for an item ripped from that pack. This is usually the same as or slightly lower than the cost of the mystery pack.
It doesn’t tell you the value of a specific card you might reveal if you get that pack and rip it to find out its contents. It merely tells you how the pack price is reached at Courtyard.
Check the odds of pulling a trading card of a certain value
This is important. Let’s take a Pokemon Ultra (Spicy) Pack as an example. You can get this for $249. You’ve got a 48% chance of pulling a card worth anywhere from $132.40 to $190. You’ve also got a 24% chance of revealing a card worth between $190 and $249. This pack also lists a 22% chance of doing slightly better and getting a card worth between $249 and $498.
After that, your odds of getting a rarer and more expensive card drop dramatically, as you’d expect. Courtyard gives the following info for the Pokemon Ultra (Spicy) Pack:
- 5% chance of pulling a card worth between $498 and $996
- 0.6% chance of pulling a card valued between $996 and $8,000
Find the best packs to buy at Courtyard
Courtyard does have mystery boxes containing watches and sneakers, so it has expanded beyond the familiar trading card mystery packs. You can easily visit the Courtyard website by clicking one of our links on this page, which will take you straight there to look around.
As we’ve seen, determining which packs are the best ones to buy will vary depending on various factors. You’ll have more pack options in some categories compared to others. Basketball fans can choose from 10, while soccer fans are limited to just four. The best packs offer reasonable odds of getting a decent trading card. The other main advantage of the Courtyard website is the inclusion of its marketplace. You can always list unwanted trading cards there with no fees to worry about, regardless of whether you sell something or not.
