super bowl look-ahead lines

Just four NFL teams remain in the hunt for the Lombardi Trophy, with a new Super Bowl 56 favorite after the Packers lost. Four teams left also means four possible Super Bowl matchups, and the good folks at Caesars Sportsbook decided to post Super Bowl look-ahead lines.

What do these lines tell us about what’s to come on Feb. 13?

Takeaways From Super Bowl Look-Ahead Lines

Just before the start of the playoffs, TheLines posted estimated NFL market power ratings that indicated a pretty wide open field of contenders.

That looks to have held true after a ho-hum Wild Card playoff and a spectacular Divisional playoff. Even with a couple of upstarts making the Conference Championships, the only line projected north of a field goal has the Rams favored over the Bengals.

Additionally, a relatively high-scoring game should be on tap. There isn’t much difference between the lowest total (49 — 49ers/Bengals) and the highest (52 — Rams/Chiefs).

Also, we’re very likely to get a fresh matchup here for the 2021 season. The only potential rematch would see the 49ers and Bengals meet in LA. That would require both underdogs to win outright this weekend, a roughly 11% probability outcome according to current market prices.

Then again, we just saw a weekend where a 13-second drive by the Chiefs was the only thing that stopped all four underdogs from advancing.

Speaking of the Chiefs, it’s perhaps interesting to note that despite clearing probably the strongest remaining hurdle in the Bills and watching the two NFC favorites go down, they don’t rate as much of a favorite in the Super Bowl.

Finally, when comparing the Chiefs and Bengals to the Rams, keep in mind that Super Bowl LVI takes place in the Rams’ home SoFi Stadium. While tickets will be equally distributed, they may still garner a small home field advantage from lack of travel.

How To Use And Bet Opening Super Bowl Lines

Just like all of the look-ahead lines we’ve used throughout the year, these Super Bowl look-ahead lines can be a useful tool for sports bettors. They can help give you an objective look at the relative strengths of the teams before any recency bias takes hold following NFL Conference Championship games.

If you expect a certain set of results to skew the lines, you can take advantage by betting into these markets early. You’ll get a better number than the market and can feel good about locking in closing line value.

If one of the teams in the matchup you’re betting loses, no harm. The sportsbook will simply refund your wager.

So, head to Caesars Sportsbook now — and get a sign-up bonus on the way — if you want to grab some early value on one of these four teams before the Conference Championships are played.
