The road to mobile sports betting in Ohio is still a long one, but it just got a little bit shorter. A Caesars Sportsbook – Cleveland Cavaliers partnership is now a reality.

The partnership isn’t unlike others we’ve seen between sportsbooks and professional teams. Caesars themselves have already penned deals with the Washington Wizards and Arizona Diamondbacks. They’ll be an Official Sports Betting Partner for the Cavaliers.

What may be most exciting to Clevelanders is the announcement of a 10,000 square foot sports betting lounge located right inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. With it are betting windows, a full-service bar, and VIP lounge. According to Caesar’s release, construction on the space will be “starting soon” with an anticipated finish by the end of 2022.

Of course, this is subject to laws and regulations that haven’t taken effect in the state of Ohio.

In the release, Co-President of Caesars Digital Chris Holdren weighed in on the newly-formed partnership:

“We’re ready to welcome Ohio sports fans into the Caesars Sportsbook Empire, while also making history with our second sportsbook at an NBA arena… [W]e’re excited to announce our partnership with the Cavaliers at an exciting time in their franchise’s history… [T]his wide-ranging partnership enables us to connect with the Cavs’ passionate and highly engaged fanbase. Caesars Sportsbook at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will be a first-class venue providing an exciting atmosphere for sports betting and more.”

The Cavaliers are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference despite missing star point guard Collin Sexton. The roster is packed by young players, many of which found themselves in their first All-Star Game, which was held in Cleveland, this February. Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen both found themselves on the active rosters after being named reserves.

When Can Fans Expect To Use This?

As mentioned in our last article on the progress of legal sports betting in Ohio, the Buckeye State has some work to do before its residents can lay down bets. Legislation was passed at the end of 2021 legalizing sports betting by 2023. In preparation, sportsbooks and pro teams will likely continue to form partnerships.

Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse recently underwent massive renovations. The newly-made premiere NBA venue sits in the heart of downtown Cleveland, accessible to most entertainment districts. It also connects via skyway to the JACK Casino, the only casino in Cleveland.

Details have not yet been released, but other betting lounges and windows in D.C. and Phoenix are open outside of game days. That offers bettors opportunities to visit the book seven days a week. It’s likely the Cleveland location will operate similarly.

It appears both Caesars and the Cavaliers are anticipating sports betting being legalized earlier than Jan. 1, 2023. At the very least, they’re preparing for it. Keep up-to-date with TheLines coverage of Ohio sports betting for further developments.
