In a Pacific Division clash on Tuesday night and the season opener for both teams, the Edmonton Oilers host the Vancouver Canucks. Before the puck drops, check out this Canucks vs. Oilers prediction to get the latest odds, game info, betting trends, stats, and value player props.

To say the Canucks are coming off a tough season would be like saying Wayne Gretzky was pretty good. Yeah, major understatement. They had the fewest points in the NHL with 58, and the next-fewest was the Chicago Blackhawks with 72.

Vancouver has a new head coach in Manny Malhotra, who inherits a team that ranked dead last in the NHL last season in goals allowed per game (3.83) and second-to-last in goals per game (2.56). While they brought in some players, Elias Pettersson, Jake DeBrusk, and Brock Boeser all need bounce-back seasons. Injuries in the last two seasons have beset top netminder Thatcher Demko, and he starts this season on IR.

The Oilers also have a new head coach in Mike Babcock, who looks to get the team over the hump. Last season, the team was upset in the first round of the playoffs after losing in the Stanley Cup finals the previous two seasons. The team made few off-season moves, but no major ones, and will once again be led by the dynamic duo of Connor McDavid, who led the NHL in points last season, and Leon Draisaitl.

The Oilers' main issue will again be their defense. That is even more so early on, as top netminder and newcomer Frederik Andersen begins the season on injured reserve.

With Thatcher Demko likely out for more than two months, Kevin Lankinen (11-27-5, 3.70 GAA, .875 save %) and Leevi Merilainen (8-10-1, 3.51 GAA, .860 save %), who was with the Ottawa Senators last season, will man the goal. Lankinen will likely start in goal for the season opener.

Oilers

With Anderson out with an injury, Tristan Jarry will get the start in goal for the opener. Last season he was 18-9-3 with a GAA of 3.32 and a save percentage of .882. He was inconsistent for the Oilers after coming in a mid-season trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He lost the top spot to Connor Ingram, who retired in the offseason. The team also has Devon Levi, but he has not played in the NHL since the 2024-2025 season.

Canucks vs. Oilers Prediction: Oilers -1.5 Puck Line (-120)

The Oilers are massive favorites in this game, and with good reason, facing a Canucks’ team that has a lot of question marks. I am taking them and the puck line at better odds, and 67% of the public money for the puck line has been on Edmonton.

While Edmonton may still have defensive issues, they have a strong attack, and last season McDavid and Draisaitl combined for 80 goals. That is not good for a Vancouver team whose two healthy goalies each had a GAA north of 3.50 last season.

The Oilers covered the puck line in three of four games facing the Canucks last season, and they will do it again tonight in the season opener.
