NFL Best Bets for Week 2: Take the Over on TNF and MNF

The NFL action starts again tonight in the Thursday night game, and here are our NFL best bets for Week 2. The week starts with the Bills hosting the Lions in a non-conference affair on TNF, then ends with the MNF game as the Giants take on the Rams in La La Land.

Detroit Lions vs. Buffalo Bills Over 54.5  

Both teams won their openers in close games, with the Bills beating the Houston Texans 36-31 and the Lions beating the New Orleans Saints 31-30 in overtime. Both games went Over, and that is the pick for this Thursday night game.

Josh Allen had a big game in the win over Houston, passing for 334 yards with two TDs and no picks, and also rushed for two scores. Buffalo racked up 409 yards of offense against a Texans team that led the league in defense last season.

Jared Goff led the Lions to a Week 1 win, even though they were outgained 469 yards to 369 yards.

Both teams struggled on defense in their last game, facing two offenses not known for being high-scoring. Look for another high-scoring affair, so the Over is the pick.

The total has gone Over in three of the last four home games for the Bills and for six of the last eight games for the Lions.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears Over 48

Taking another Over here, and not hard to see why, especially since the Bears beat the Carolina Panthers 59-37 in Week 1. The Vikings also won last week with a 39-22 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Both teams were solid on offense in their openers but not so much on defense. This is especially true for the Bears, who gave up 478 yards and 37 points but still won by 22.

Yeah, go Over in the Windy City, as that was the winning pick for both teams' Week 1 games and also when these teams met last season in Chicago.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Kansas City Chiefs -6.5 

Patrick Mahomes passed his first test after returning from injury, leading the Chiefs to an impressive 31-10 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 1. On the other side of the coin, Daniel Jones was not so fortunate in his first game back from injury in a bad 41-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

I'm not going to get into the defenses or even the play of Mahomes and Jones, but the main reason KC will win and cover is the run game. New Chiefs’ off-season addition and reigning Super Bowl MVP RB Kenneth Walker III rushed for 173 yards in the season opener while Indy gave up over 200 rushing yards in their loss.

Carolina Panthers -2.5 vs. Atlanta Falcons 

Ok, yes, I am taking the Panthers here even though they gave up 59 points in Week 1. Still, they did put up 37 points and racked up over 470 yards of total offense.

The Falcons lost their opener 20-13 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting third-string QB Cooper Rush, who went 12/22 for 145 yards, one TD, and two INTs. Michael Pennix Jr. is not back from his knee injury, and Tua Tagovailoa is listed as day-to-day with an oblique injury and did not practice Wednesday. The Falcons have not named a starter as of Thursday morning.

Atlanta's QB situation is so bad that fans are clamoring for Jack Strand to get the start under center, and he is fourth on the depth chart and an undrafted rookie from a Division II school.

Take the Panthers to cover, which they did in both meetings facing the Falcons last season.

New York Giants vs. L.A. Rams Over 48 

Taking the Over here, even though the Rams scored only seven points in their Week 1 loss. That loss was in Melbourne, and it seems the Rams mailed it in, getting Down Under not long before the game. They are back at home with over a week and a half to prepare, and with Matt Stafford and the potent L.A. offense, they will light it up.

The Giants were solid in their 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys last week, where they nearly had 400 yards. Jaxson Dart played well, and the NY offense should be decent in this game, and they don't have to contend with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, who is injured.

The Rams had the highest-scoring offense last season, and they will pick up where they left off on Monday night.

In six of the last seven games last season and for Week 1 this season, the total went Over for the Giants.
