Patriots vs. Seahawks Under 44.5
This is the first game of the season and a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl. The Seahawks beat the Patriots 29-13, and the total went Under. Both teams have solid defences and, like the Big Game last season, do not look for a shootout in this season opener.
The Pats played only seven games last season against teams with winning records, and four of those were in the playoffs. In five of those games, the total went Under, and that was also the winning pick for Seattle’s last three games against AFC teams.
Best Bet: Under 44.5 (-110, bet365)
Ravens -3.5 vs. Colts
The Ravens open the season as 3.5-point favourites over the Colts on the road. Baltimore has something to prove this season after a disappointing one last season. Lamar Jackson is back and healthy, Derrick Henry is still legit out of the backfield, and the team improved their defence in the offseason.
The Colts are no pushovers, and while Daniel Jones will get the start, it will be his first real-game action since tearing his Achilles last season. While Jones had a solid bounce-back season last year, Indy failed to cover in four of the last six games he played.
Best Bet: Ravens -3.5 (-105, bet365)
Jets vs. Titans -1.5
Ok, so not a clash of the Titans, even though they are playing, with an opener between two teams that each had three wins last season. Cam Ward is back after an unimpressive rookie year, but he now has a great playmaker in first-round pick WR Carnell Tate. The Jets are the Jets, and while they have some young talent, is Geno Smith, who had a terrible QBR of 34.1 with the Raiders last season, the answer under centre?
Tennessee is the pick at home to win and cover. Last season, the Titans were 4-2 ATS in their last six home games, and the Jets were 1-5 ATS in their last six road games.
Best Bet: Titans -1.5 (-110, bet365)
Cowboys vs. Giants Over 48.5
A big NFC East clash in the Big Apple on Sunday night with the Giants hosting the Cowboys. Both games between these teams went Over last season, so we have to go with that pick here. Both teams have good defences up front, on paper, but each heads into the season with more than suspect secondaries. Plus, Dak Prescott is healthy and has the best WR duo in the NFL in George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb.
The total went Over in the Giants' last five games last season.
Best Bet: Over 48.5 points (-105, bet365)
Broncos vs. Chiefs Under 43.5
Patrick Mahomes is back for the Chiefs, who host the reigning AFC West division champs, the Broncos. Leaning towards the Under here, as the banged-up KC offensive line will be facing a Denver pass rush that led the NFL in sacks last season. Mahomes will not have time to get the ball downfield, and with him coming back from injury, the Chiefs may rely on an offseason addition and Super Bowl MVP RB Kenneth Walker III, which will eat time off the clock.
While the Broncos advanced to the AFC title game last season, they ranked 14th in points per game.
Both of the games between these teams last season went Under.
Best Bet: Under 43.5 points (-110, bet365)
