The Blue Jays (69-71) have won four of their last five games, and while out of the AL East race, they are tied with two other teams 1.5 games back of the Guardians, who hold the last AL Wild Card.

The Guardians (70-69) had won two in a row before losing the second game of this series. They have the last AL Wild Card and sit in second place in the AL Central, three games out of first place.

Toronto ranks 11th in the Majors in team ERA, and while only ranking 29th in runs scored, they have totaled 30 runs in the four wins in their last five games.

Guerrero Jr. (.262, 8 home runs, 53 RBIs) has seven RBIs over the last four games, and the home run in Game 2 was his first in nearly a month. Kazuma Okamoto (.227, 28 home runs, 78 RBIs) leads the club in home runs and RBIs and has two homers and five RBIs over the last five games.

Blue Jays’ Starter for Series Finale 

Jose Soriano (11-7, 3.45 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) goes for the finale, and the Blue Jays have won six of his last seven starts. He has given up more than three runs only one time in that span. This is his first start facing the Guardians this season, and he faced them twice last season, getting lit up for five runs in 5 1/3 innings at home but tossing six scoreless innings in Cleveland. On the season, the right-hander has logged 169 innings, striking out 152 batters and walking 78.

The Big Goose Egg After Two Solid Games at the Plate 

The Guardians had totaled 17 runs in two wins before being shut out in the last game. In the loss, the team struck out nine times and only had six hits, with Chase DeLauter having three of them.

This season, Cleveland ranks a solid sixth in team ERA, but only 28th in runs scored.

First baseman Rhys Hoskins (.179, 13 home runs, 38 RBIs) is out for this game on the 10-day DL, and while DeLauter is dealing with a hamstring injury, he played yesterday and should be in the lineup today. DeLauter (.294, 13 home runs, 60 RBIs) leads the team in batting average and RBIs but only has one RBI over the last seven games.

Angel Martinez (.247, 14 home runs, 50 RBIs) is the clubhouse leader in home runs and had one in two straight games with five RBIs before going 0 for 3 in the last game.

Guardians’ Starter for Series Finale 

Tanner Bibee (5-14, 3.88 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) gets the nod for Cleveland, which has lost six of the last seven games with him on the hill. He has not pitched poorly in that span, giving up more than three runs only once, but has gotten little run support. This will be his first outing of the season facing Toronto, and this season he has struck out 128 and has 46 walks in 162 1/3 innings of work.

Taking the Blue Jays in the finale mainly because of having Soriano on the hill, and while he has not been great in the last three starts, the Blue Jays have won six of his last seven outings. Bibee has not been bad in his last three starts but has gotten little run support, and that will happen in this game, backed by a lineup that ranks third to last in baseball in runs scored. Toronto will win what I look to be a close game and take the series.
