CFL Picks and Parlays Today: Best Props and Picks for Sept. 19

Two CFL games are on the Saturday slate, and we'll focus on the later one for our CFL picks and parlays today when the Calgary Stampeders host the Ottawa Redblacks.

Ottawa (0-12) is the lone winless team in the CFL, but they showed some promise in their last game, losing 26-23 to Toronto and covering the spread for the first time in six games.

Calgary (5-8) was blown out in their last game, and they have lost two in a row and four of their last five games.

New QB Provides Spark for Redblacks 

In the loss to Toronto, Ottawa head coach Ryan Dinwiddie made a change in the first half, bringing in quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to replace Jake Maier, and he provided a spark as the Redblacks scored 16 points in the second half. In the game, Bethel-Thompson threw for 192 yards and a TD, with no picks, and will get the start on Saturday.

The Redblacks lost to Toronto despite outgaining them 443 to 234 yards and forcing two turnovers while committing none.

Ottawa is the league's lowest-scoring team, averaging only 22.5 ppg, and also ranks last in points allowed (36.5 ppg).

While the Redblacks have a good receiving duo in Ayden Eberhardt (790 yards, 5 TD) and Justin Hardy (796 yards, 4 TD), the run game has been nearly nonexistent. Greg Bell (316 yards) leads the team in rushing, has no TDs, and has rushed for over 20 yards in only one of the last six games.

Stampeders Have a Game to Forget 

While Calgary played a good team on the road in their last game, they still had one to forget: an embarrassing 53-16 loss to the Edmonton Elks. They were outscored 50-9 after taking a 7-3 lead in the first quarter, were outgained 428 to 245 yards, and had five turnovers while forcing none.

In the bad loss to the Elks, Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 142 yards and a TD but threw two INTs; Ludovick Choquette rushed for a season-high 62 yards, and Jaylen Philpot led the way with 64 receiving yards.

While the Stampeders have struggled on defence and their offence was far from good in the last game, they are still the second-highest scoring team in the league. However, while averaging 36.3 ppg, they have not scored over 28 points in their last four games.

Adams Jr. has not passed for over 214 yards in his last four games, where he has four TDs and four picks. Dedrick Mills (943 yards, 4 TDs) ranks second in the CFL in rushing yards and has only totaled 69 yards in the last two games.

CFL Picks and Parlays Today (Saturday, Sept. 19)

Calgary to cover: (-8.5, bet365)

Calgary played West Division-leading Edmonton in the last two games, losing both by double digits. However, at home and facing winless Ottawa, they will get back on track.

The Stampeders will lean on the run more, and it will work as Adams Jr. will bounce back. Bethel-Thompson may provide another spark, but it will not be enough with the many holes the Redblacks have on both sides of the ball. Calgary will play well at home, avoid turning the ball over five times as they did in their last game, and win and cover.

Over 62.5 points: (-110, bet365)

It's not hard to see why you'd take the over with a matchup between two teams that rank last and second-to-last in points allowed. Calgary hasn't been scoring big in the last few games, but they will in this one, and Ottawa will also put up a decent total, with Bethel-Thompson providing some much-needed offence. This game will be far from a defensive battle, which is why the Over is the pick.

CFL Parlay for Stampeders vs. Redblacks

Here is our favourite three-leg parlay of player props for this non-division matchup:

• McLeod Bethel-Thompson Over 286.5 passing yards: Bethel-Thompson had 192 passing yards while not playing a full game in the last one, and with the Redblacks' lack of a run game, he will air it out often.
• Dedrick Mills Over 74.5 rushing yards: While Mills has rushed for over 74.5 yards in only two of the last five games, he will get a lot of carries in this game facing an Ottawa team that gave up 120 rushing yards in their last game.
• Justin Hardy 60+ receiving yards: Again, the Redblacks will air it out often, and Hardy is averaging 66.3 receiving yards per game.
