Where Next for Crystal Palace’s Goodman?
Owen Goodman has yet to make a Premier League appearance for Crystal Palace since signing a professional contract at the London club in 2022.
The Canadian goalkeeper has been sent out on loan to several lower-league English teams over the past few years, but should the Canada international leave Selhurst Park to pursue first-team soccer elsewhere?
Goodman Named in Canada’s World Cup Squad
Goodman was born in England but represents the Canada national team after taking the oath of Canadian citizenship in 2025. He played for Canada’s U20 team in 2022 and always expressed a desire to play for the senior side.
The now 22-year-old was born in England’s capital in 2003, but he moved to Canada with his parents when he was five. He was named in Canada’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but never made an appearance in the tournament.
The Reds enjoyed an extremely successful World Cup under the popular Jesse Marsch, reaching the last 16. The national team beat Qatar 6-0 and won a knockout game in the Round of 32. Canada lost to Morocco in the last 16 and finished 14th in the final World Cup rankings.
Time to Move On?
Despite desperately wanting to make an impact at Selhurst Park, Goodman is unlikely to get a chance under new boss Pierre Sage. He could be shipped out on loan again, but is now the right time for Goodman to make a permanent move away?
In recent years, he has had loan spells with Colchester United, AFC Wimbledon, Huddersfield Town, and Barnsley.
Last season, the stopper played 22 EFL League One games for Barnsley after signing for the third-tier club in January.
Sorting out his club career could have an impact on his international duties. Goodman, who was also eligible to play for England and Nigeria, is eager to make his senior debut for the Canadian team, especially after the Reds’ heroics at the 2026 World Cup.
