Canada Officially Finishes 14th in the 2026 FIFA World Cup
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup now done and dusted, the official standings have been announced.
Canada finished 14th, showcasing what a remarkable achievement the men’s team pulled off in the 2026 edition. It was a memorable tournament from start to finish, and there could be much more to come from Jesse Marsch’s team.

Canada’s World Cup record before the 2026 edition was pretty woeful. The men’s team had only qualified twice, losing six games out of six. Before qualifying for Qatar four years ago, the Reds’ only previous World Cup appearance was in Mexico in 1986.
That said, there was a real feel-good factor within the nation going into this tournament. All three of Canada’s group games were taking place on home soil, and many people fancied Marsch’s men to reach the knockout phase.
The class of 2026 made history in the first game, coming from behind to tie with Bosnia & Herzegovina and secure Canada’s first-ever World Cup point.
Huge Victory Over Qatar in Vancouver
Canada then won its first World Cup game in style. The team went up against Qatar in front of 52,000 expectant spectators at BC Place, running out emphatic 6-0 winners.
Jonathan David stole the show with a hat-trick, becoming the first North American player to hit a World Cup treble since 1930. Cyle Larin and Nathan Saliba were also on the scoresheet in Vancouver.
The Canadians finished second in Group B, setting up a Round-of-32 game against South Africa. Canada beat the South Africans before being knocked out by Morocco in the last 16.
Overall, it was an incredible World Cup for Marsch, the team, and the entire nation. The co-host played five games, winning two, losing two, and drawing one.
Canada finished 14th, its highest-ever World Cup ranking. Incredibly, the Canadian national team was ranked above the likes of the Netherlands, Germany, Croatia, and Turkey. To finish in the top 16 of soccer’s grandest competition is a monumental achievement for the nation.
