The 2026 World Cup final takes place on Sunday between Argentina and Spain, both looking to be crowned the outright champions after tremendous runs to make it this far.

Will Lionel Messi secure back-to-back titles or can the European champions showcase why they are the best team in the world? Let’s take a closer look at this incredible matchup.

Argentina vs Spain Predictions

After Spain drew their opening World Cup group stage match 0-0 with Cape Verde, not many would have believed they were capable of reaching the final. However, it’s safe to say they have grown into the tournament going on to beat Uruguay, Austria, Belgium, Portugal and France.

The fact Spain have only conceded one goal in seven matches is incredible as well. Their defense, led by 32-year-old Aymeric Laporte alongside Barcelona’s 19-year-old Pau Cubarsi, have been by far the best at the World Cup.

At the other end of the pitch, Lamine Yamal has yet to score a goal but his fellow teammates have delivered where he’s been unable to. Dani Olmo has been the star of the show as their no.10, while forward Mikel Oyarzabal heads into the final with five goals to his name.

Argentina, however, won’t go down without a fight. We saw that against England and how willing they were to kick their opponents and make life difficult for them. The South Americans haven’t been foot perfect this summer, but their comeback wins against Egypt and England have showcased their mental resilience - something that simply cannot be ignored.

Of course, Lionel Messi will be the headline act but the likes of Lautaro Martinez, who scored the winner vs England, Julian Alvarez, who scored the winner vs Switzerland, and Enzo Fernandez in behind are all capable of delivering on the biggest stage of all.

Spain to win at +110

Spain are favorites at +120 while Argentina will be seen as lively outsiders priced at +260. So who wins the final?

It’s hard to ignore Spain who have shown tremendous growth this summer. Their draw vs Cape Verde was their main stumbling block, but they also drew with Argentina in the round of 32 and scored two past them, which shows more flaws in their game than it does with the European champions.

Spain were solid against Uruguay, Austria and Portugal, barely giving any of those nations a chance at their goal - and they could win this final without conceding, they have been that good.

Against France, Spain didn’t give them a chance, and this was against the nation that were favorites to win the World Cup from the quarterfinal stage. Luis de la Fuente is a man with a plan and he will know exactly how to hurt Argentina.

Argentina are vulnerable defensively, especially in the fullback area and that’s where Spain can undo them, as they did with France in the semifinal.

Lamine Yamal to score at +440

Lamine Yamal could finally be the star of the show, who is edging closer to a goal this World Cup after having one ruled out vs France.

Yamal is +440 to find the back of the net, and with Argentina’s fullbacks being caught out a few times this World Cup, including both against England when Anthony Gordon fired home, Barcelona’s star asset can deliver on the biggest stage of all.
