Can Eustaquio Help Swansea Reach the English Premier League?

Stephen Eustaquio, who captained Canada in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is enjoying his new life in Wales with Swansea City.

As the Swans push for promotion to the English Premier League, Eustaquio could have a big role to play at the Swansea.com Stadium this term.

Midfielder Leaves Portugal for Wales

The 29-year-old made the move to Swansea from Porto in August, signing a two-year deal in South Wales.

During his time in Portugal, the Ontario-born ace made over 150 league and cup appearances, helping the Dragons win two league titles and various cup competitions.

Eustaquio was loaned out to Los Angeles FC in MLS for the start of the 2026 season, playing ten league games and scoring one goal. After his loan spell in America was up, the Canadian decided to leave Porto for Wales.

The midfielder played a crucial role for Canada in the 2026 World Cup, captaining the team to its first-ever World Cup win. The Canadians made history by hammering Qatar 6-0 in Vancouver, going on to reach the last 16.

Since 2019, Eustaquio has made 61 appearances for his national team, helping himself to five goals. At just 29, his international career is far from over.

Swans Seeking EPL Promotion

Eustaquio made his Swansea debut in the 3-0 victory over Derby County in late August. Overall, he has played five EFL Championship games for the Swans, helping his new teammates to two wins and two draws.

Under the popular Vitor Matos, Swansea is pushing for promotion to the Premier League. The Welsh side has not been in England’s top tier since the 2017-18 season.

Swansea has made an excellent start, as Matos’ men have picked up an impressive 14 points from seven games to sit joint-top of the Championship table with West Ham United, Middlesbrough, and West Bromwich Albion.

Eustaquio is a marquee signing for Swansea, especially with his World Cup and UEFA Champions League experience. He is already a big hit with the supporters, and City’s new No. 46 could be crucial in Swansea’s promotion bid.
