Vancouver Canucks are On Track to Repeat History

Vancouver had the fewest points in the NHL by a wide margin in 2025-26. The Canucks are on track to repeat history this season — again with the fewest points in the league.
Good Start, Not Much Since
The Canucks got off to a solid start this season, winning two of their first three games. Since then, they've won only one of their last 14 games. The one silver lining is that their lone win in the last 14 games kept them from tying the franchise record for an 11-game losing streak, which they set last season.
Major Defensive Woes
One thing this season for the Canucks is that the attack hasn't been terrible, ranking 19th in the league and averaging 3.00 goals per game. The defense, on the other hand, has been terrible, and that is an understatement. They rank dead last in the league, giving up an average of 4.53 goals per game; the 31st-ranked Chicago Blackhawks give up 3.94 goals per game.
Last season, Vancouver finished last in GAA, giving up 3.83 goals per game. This season, they have the fewest points in the league (7) and have lost three straight games in which they gave up 12 goals.
Change Has Not Helped
Kevin Lankinen began the season as the top netminder for the Canucks, but Leevi Merilainen has been seeing more ice time. No shock there, as Merilainen has a GAA of 3.31 while Lankinen has one north of 6.00. Lankinen ranks last in the NHL in GAA at 6.03, almost two goals more than the second-to-last goalie, Anaheim’s Ville Husso (4.13 GAA).
While Merilainen has had more ice time, it hasn't translated into wins. Lankinen started the last game on November 4th after not starting since Oct. 23, and the break didn't help, as he gave up five goals.
Two things are for sure: The Canucks’ defense has been downright terrible, and Vancouver fans are in for another long season.
