Flames Can’t Build on First Win

After starting the season with five straight losses, Calgary finally got a W with a 4-2 road win over the Anaheim Ducks. However, the Flames can’t build on that first win after getting smoked in Sin City, losing 6-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights in their last game.
Giving it Up Early and Late
In the bad loss to the Golden Knights, the Flames were outscored 2-0 in the first period and 3-1 in the third, allowing Mark Stone a hat trick in the final period. In the loss, Jake Middleton scored a shorthanded goal, and Matt Coronato scored late in the third period on a power play when Calgary trailed 6-1.
Dustin Wolf had another less-than-impressive game in between the pipes, allowing six goals on 33 shots.
At Least the Flames Have Company
Calgary has two points in seven games, but at least they aren't alone, as the winless L.A. Kings also have two points in five games.
The Flames have flamed out on both ends of the ice, ranking dead last in the league, giving up an average of five goals per game, and second-to-last, averaging two goals per game. Five of their six losses have come by three goals or more, and the one that was not was a two-goal loss.
Goalie Issues
You might think Dustin Wolf could lose his spot as the top netminder with a GAA of 4.85 and a save percentage of .834 in five starts. However, backup Devin Cooley has been even worse in two starts with a GAA of 5.01 and a save percentage of .818. Wolf has allowed six goals in three of five starts, and Cooley was peppered for seven goals in his last start after giving up three in his season debut.
Things Don’t Get Any Easier
The upcoming schedule doesn't get any easier for the Flames, as only one of the teams they face in their next 10 games currently has a losing record.
