Stefon Diggs Makes Bold Claim While Still Searching for NFL Team
The NFL season continues to inch closer, and for the most part, teams have established which players are going to be on their rosters.
At this point, it’s largely about establishing depth charts ahead of the start of the 2026 season. But with that in mind, there are still a handful of big-name free agents on the market, and Stefon Diggs is a headliner in that group.
For much of his career, Diggs has been an unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver. He was even very good for the New England Patriots last season, finishing with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.
At this stage of his career, though, he’s probably more of a No. 2 receiver. But in his opinion, he’s the best No. 2 receiver in the entire NFL.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel last week, Diggs claimed he can still compete with anybody and said, “You can’t name a number two better than me.”
At 32 years old, it’s unclear exactly where Diggs falls in the pecking order around the league. He was released by the Patriots in March in a financially driven move, given he would have counted for $26.5 million against the salary cap. New England ultimately traded for A.J. Brown and signed Romeo Doubs to reshape its receiving corps.
Diggs is certainly still a good player in the league, but it would take the right team and the right situation for him to be a dominant No. 2 option.
There are reasons he’s still a free agent and not currently on a roster.
But it’ll be interesting to see whether a team takes the gamble on Diggs in the coming weeks. Whether he lands somewhere with a guaranteed No. 2 role remains to be seen.
One thing he certainly doesn’t lack is confidence, and he continues to show that as he navigates free agency and looks for a new home.
