Whitecaps Back in the Win Column with Another Clean Sheet

The Vancouver Whitecaps got back in the win column with a 3-0 win over LA Galaxy at BC Place. The club remains in first place in the Western Conference, three points clear of the Houston Dynamo, whom they lost to a few matches back.

Strong Back Line Leading the Way 

The win over the Galaxy was Vancouver’s third clean sheet win in their last four matches. In their last six matches, they have had four clean sheets but were handed one in the 1-0 home loss to Houston on Aug. 19. The Whitecaps have conceded the second-fewest goals in the MLS (21) and lead the league in goal differential (+31).

Breaking Down the Win Over the Galaxy 

After one of the poorer matches from the Whitecaps in a 3-1 home loss to St. Louis CITY SC, they got back on track with the 3-0 win over the Galaxy. While they lost the time-of-possession battle (49% to 51%), they had more shots on goal (9-5) and won 16 more duels (54-38).

Vancouver struck quickly, with Brian White scoring in the eighth minute, and the club's leading scorer, with 14, has found the back of the net four times in the last four matches. Ryan Gauld made the score 2-0 with a goal in the 57th minute, and Bruno Caicedo finished it off, converting on a penalty in the 90th minute.

What’s Next 

The Whitecaps' next match is at home on Sunday, September 13, facing Austin FC, who are in second-to-last place in the Western Conference. Then their last two matches in September are on the road to face Real Salt Lake (10th in the West) and back at BC Place to host D.C. United (11th in the East).

Big Favorites Again 

Vancouver were big betting favourites in the match against the Galaxy and are favoured again this Sunday. Betway Sportsbook has them at -400, with Austin FC at +700 and a draw at +500.

After the Whitecaps' recent win, they also overtook Inter Miami to become the leaders in MLS Cup odds. They are at +400, with Miami at +450 and Nashville, which has the most points in the league, at +550.
