The Vancouver Whitecaps FC suffered its fourth loss in nine MLS matches midweek, falling 3-1 to Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field.

Vancouver hope to put things right when they travel to California this weekend to face Los Angeles FC in MLS.

Caps in Stuttering Form

Vancouver has picked up just one win in its previous four, collecting four points from the last 12 on offer. With the playoffs looming, the Caps want to find the winning formula again after the recent slump.

Jesper Soresen’s side was beaten again in midweek, losing 3-1 to Chicago at Soldier Field.

Jonathan Bamba opened the scoring for Chicago in the ninth minute, and Philip Zinckernagel doubled the home team’s advantage in the 50th minute.

Mathias Laborda pulled one back for the Blue-and-White, but Maren Haile-Selassie’s 88th-minute strike secured the points for Fire.

Sorensen’s Side Remains Top

Despite their poor form of late, the Caps are still flying high at the top of the Western Conference table. It has been an excellent season in British Columbia, with Vancouver winning 15 of 27 matches.

The Village are three points above St. Louis City SC in the West but ten points behind Nashville SC in the combined league table.

LAFC Up Next

A trip to Los Angeles is up next for Vancouver. LAFC sit in sixth and are gearing up for the playoffs after 11 wins, eight draws, and nine defeats from 28.

Los Angeles has slipped down the table after just one win in ten. They have struggled since MLS returned from the 2026 FIFA World Cup break, and the home side head into this weekend’s match after losing two of their last three.

Despite LAFC’s bad run, this will be a tough test for Vancouver. Still, the team’s away form has generally been excellent this season, and Sorensen’s troops are looking to get back to winning ways in the City of Angels.
