Vancouver Whitecaps Back to Winning Ways in Style

After a disappointing defeat in Denver last weekend, Vancouver Whitecaps FC got back to winning ways in style on Wednesday night, easing past San Diego FC at BC Place.
Vancouver is closing in on the MLS Western Conference trophy, and a win against Seattle Sounders FC this weekend will be enough.
Comfortable Night for the Canadians
Vancouver was not at its best on the weekend, suffering a 1-0 loss to Colorado Rapids. Morgan Whittaker’s late goal was enough for the home team at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The Caps bounced back in style last night, trumping San Diego by four goals to one at BC Place. It was an excellent night for the home fans, who had not seen their team win at BC since early September.
Aleksa Cvetkovic opened the scoring midway through the first period, with Brian White doubling the home side’s advantage before the break.
Ryan Gauld and Bruno Caicedo added second-half goals before Onni Valakari’s consolation and Rayan Elloumi’s red card. The game finished in a big 4-1 win for the Blue-and-White.
One More Win for Silverware
Getting their hands on the MLS Cup is Vancouver’s ultimate ambition this season, especially after losing in the final game a year ago. However, the Village would love to go into the playoffs having won the Western Conference trophy.
With two games to play, Vancouver is just one win away from finishing top of the standings in the West. Jesper Sorensen’s men face Seattle at BC Place this weekend, and getting the job done in front of their home fans would be fitting.
If they cannot do the business this Saturday, Whitecaps could secure the trophy at CF Montreal on the final day of the regular season.
Either way, Sorensen’s troops have been superb this term and deserve to finish at the top of the pile in the Western Conference.
