Vancouver Whitecaps FC sealed first place in the Western Conference table without kicking a ball on Saturday night.

FC Dallas needed to beat Sporting Kansas City to keep the championship battle alive but drew 1-1, handing the trophy to the Canadians.

Superb Season So Far

Securing a playoff position in MLS was Vancouver’s first ambition this season, but finishing first in the Western Conference is a great achievement.

Apart from a minor blip after the 2026 FIFA World Cup break, Vancouver have been consistent and have been the best team in the division this term.

Overall, the Caps have picked up 17 wins from 32 league matches, collecting 58 points. They will want to finish the regular season on a high before concentrating on Round One of the best-of-three playoff series.

Jesper Sorensen and his boys would have celebrated Sporting KC’s draw with Dallas on Saturday night, but it’s business as usual today as the Blue-and-White welcome Seattle Sounders FC to BC Place.

Can the Caps Finish on a High?

Vancouver have two regular-season games to play before focusing on the playoffs. After today’s fixture with Seattle, the Village travel across Canada to play rivals CF Montreal in their final league fixture next week.

Even though first place is done and dusted, there is still a lot to play for today. Vancouver want to keep the momentum going, while the Sounders still have work to do to secure a playoff spot of their own.

The away team are currently ninth, a point above 10th. A win tonight would be enough for the top nine.

After a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Colorado Rapids in Denver, Vancouver got back to winning ways in midweek, claiming a big 4-1 home victory over San Diego FC on Wednesday night.

Seattle are desperate for points, but BC Place is a tough place to visit. Can the Caps celebrate the trophy with a win in their final home league match of an excellent campaign?
