Tough Road Ahead for Toronto FC With Challenging September Schedule

Toronto had a solid August, but September's schedule is a killer as the club has a tough road ahead to make the playoffs. They are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, tied with Orlando City FC in points but with fewer wins and a worse goal differential. The top nine teams in each conference make the playoffs, with the eighth and ninth seeds being the Wild Cards.

The club finished August unbeaten in five matches with three draws and two wins. The month was highlighted by a 2-1 road win over Lionel Messi and Inter Miami. In the five matches, they conceded only one goal in four of them and three in a 3-3 draw with Charlotte FC.

Killer September, to Say the Least 

It would be a major understatement to say Toronto FC has a tough schedule this month. In their first match, they are at home and face a Chicago Fire team that sits third in the Eastern Conference and beat them 2-1 in the Windy City in late May.

In their second, and final, match of the month, they face Nashville FC, first at home and then on the road. Nashville FC has the most points in the MLS by a nine-point margin, and they have only lost two matches all season.

The third match is on the road and a biggie against Orlando FC, with whom they are neck and neck within the East. This will be Toronto FC’s first match against them, and they will host them in the second match in October.

The fourth match is the lone out-of-conference game, on the road against St. Louis CITY FC, who are currently in sixth place in the West.

It Has Been a While 

Toronto FC has not qualified for the playoffs since the 2020 season. They have a tough road this month but have confidence after an unbeaten August. Still, with the killer schedule, the club has a tough task to stay afloat in the East and end its playoff drought.
