Toronto’s Winless Run Continues with Defeat in US Capital

Robin Fraser’s Toronto FC crashed to another MLS defeat, losing 2-1 to DC United at Audi Field.

The 2-1 loss in the United States capital has left the Reds languishing in 12th in the Eastern Conference standings.

Toronto’s Winless Streak Stretches to 11

Toronto was hoping to snap an unwanted ten-match winless run in Washington, D.C., but Fraser’s side left Audi Field pointless. The Canadians have not tasted victory since a 3-2 success over Colorado Rapids in April.

United was also in poor form, but the home team led at the break thanks to Kye Rowles’ 41st-minute goal. Theo Corbeanu’s effort in the 76th minute looked to have rescued a point, but Tai Baribo’s last-gasp penalty won the points for DC.

Since a 1-1 home draw with San Jose Earthquakes in early May, Fraser’s side has taken just two points from 18 available in MLS. The woeful run of results has seen the Canadian club slip down the table at an alarming rate.

The pressure continues to mount on Fraser, with the fans and local media starting to turn on the former Rapids head coach. He has been at BMO Field since January 2025, but his days in Ontario could be numbered.

A Tough Trip to New York Next Up

Next weekend, Toronto makes the trip to the Big Apple to face New York City FC. The Pigeons have turned a corner after a bad run of their own, winning four of their last six in MLS.

Last time out at Yankee Stadium, New York eased past Chicago Fire, with Nicolas Fernandez, Agustin Ojeda, and Malachi Jones getting the goals in a 3-1 triumph.

Yankee Stadium is never an easy place to visit, and the Boys in Blue have won their last two on home soil. This will be another tough away test for Toronto.

Fraser’s out-of-form team desperately needs a victory, but the Reds have managed to win just once away from home in the 2026 MLS season.
