Toronto’s Unbeaten Streak Ends in Orlando

Toronto FC was brought back down to earth with a bump on the weekend, losing 3-0 to Orlando City SC at Inter.co Stadium.

The heavy defeat in Florida ended Toronto’s impressive unbeaten run in MLS, and the Canadians face a tough test in Missouri next weekend.

Toronto Finally Beaten

Overall, it has been an up-and-down kind of season for the Reds. However, Toronto was just on its joint-best run, winning three and drawing four of seven MLS fixtures.

The pressure was starting to mount on Robin Fraser after his side went 12 league games without a win (seven draws, five defeats) from April to August, but the results have started to improve.

Still, Toronto was second-best in Orlando last weekend. The home team was in excellent form, and City was far too strong for the Canadians on the day.

French legend Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring just before half time. The Lions doubled their advantage when Harvey Sarajian netted eight minutes before the end, and Orlando had time for one more as Ivan Angulo completed the scoring late on.

Although a 3-0 defeat never looks good, there is no cause for alarm for Toronto, and the Reds are hoping to respond right away.

Canadians Travel to Missouri

Toronto is on the road again next weekend, facing St. Louis City SC at Energizer Park. City is the form team in MLS right now, winning ten and drawing five of its last 15 league matches.

St. Louis picked up an impressive victory last weekend, beating Minnesota United 4-2 at home. Yoann Damet’s boys are fifth in the West, collecting 41 points from 25 games.

As for Toronto, Fraser’s troops are 12th in the Eastern Conference with 29 points. This weekend’s game at Energizer Park will undoubtedly be difficult, but can the visitor return to Canada with the right result?
