Toronto FC Wins Canadian Classique in Stunning Style

Toronto FC scored two last-gasp goals to win the Canadian Classique in MLS on Saturday night.
Having led at BMO Field from the 51st minute, CF Montreal looked destined to win the derby. However, a dramatic ending saw the home team come from behind to take the points.
Stoppage-Time Goals Give Toronto the Points
The latest installment of the Canadian Classique did not disappoint, as the duo played out a thriller in Ontario. The home team shaded possession, but the visitor had more shots on target.
After a goalless first period in Toronto, Daniel Rios opened the scoring for Impact six minutes into the second half.
Montreal could have extended its advantage, with both Alexis Sanchez and Prince Owusu going close. However, Philippe Eullaffroy’s men were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and were ultimately punished.
Lewis Morgan came off the bench to grab an equalizer in stoppage time, firing past Sebastian Breza.
Rather than settling for a draw, Toronto pressed forward and capitalised on a counterattack against Montreal. After a flowing move, Djordje Mihailovic slotted home from close range in the 95th minute to stun the BMO Field crowd.
Can the Reds Sneak Into the Playoffs?
After the dramatic derby victory, Toronto has moved up to 11th in the Eastern Conference standings. The Reds have picked up seven wins, tied 11 and lost ten of 28, collecting 32 points.
The playoffs are still a possibility for Toronto, as Robin Fraser’s troops are just four points behind ninth-place FC Cincinnati.
Montreal’s dismal season is over, though, as CFM sits at the bottom of the East on just 24 points. Only Sporting Kansas City has picked up fewer points in MLS this year.
Toronto takes on Orlando City SC at BMO Field next, while Montreal entertains Atlanta United. With the regular season drawing to a close, both Canadian clubs will want to finish the season on a high.
