Toronto FC Ends Long Winless Streak

In their last match, Toronto FC ended their long 12-match winless streak with a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution at BMO Field. It was their first win since beating Colorado back in early April. While the club is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, they are still only four points out of the Wild Card.
A Couple of Firsts
In the win over New England, Toronto got their first goal on an own-goal when Theo Corbeanu was on the counterattack and fired a shot that was deflected off a Revolution defender and found the back of the net. Then in first-half stoppage time, Niklas Dorsch fired a rocket first touch from 24 yards out for his first MLS goal to give Toronto a 2-0 lead heading into the half.
Dorsch is new to the club, coming from Heidenheim of the German Bundesliga's second division late last month.
Toronto played a solid defensive match, and the lone goal conceded was in the 90th minute when Wilson Harris scored his first MLS goal. They lost the time-of-possession battle 65% to 35% and got the win despite playing the last 14 minutes a man down after Djordje Mihailovic received a red card.
Rare Offensive Spark
The recent 2-1 win over New England was the first time in seven matches that the club scored more than one goal. One of those goals was an own-goal and while the Toronto FC attack has had its issues as of late they have only conceded six goals in their last six matches.
Tough Road Ahead
Toronto needs to keep winning to keep their playoff hopes alive, but they have a tough road ahead. In their next five matches, all of the teams they face are in the top seven in the Eastern Conference.
In Toronto’s next match, they are back at BMO Field to host Charlotte FC, who sit fifth in the East and whom they lost to on the road on May 17, 3-1.
