Toronto FC Aims to Extend Unbeaten Streak to Six MLS Games

Toronto FC takes on Chicago Fire FC at BMO Field in weekend MLS action. Robin Fraser’s men have turned a corner, suffering just one league defeat since May.

After going five MLS fixtures without a loss, the Reds will be eyeing up all three points against in-form Fire on Saturday night.

No MLS Defeats Since May

The pressure was mounting on boss Fraser, as the 1-1 draw at New York City at the start of August extended Toronto’s winless run to 12 MLS games. However, it was also the start of a five-match undefeated streak.

Toronto picked up its first victory since April in the next game, edging past New England Revolution on home soil. Over the past five MLS games, the Reds have won two and tied three, drawing 1-1 with New York last time out.

Despite the improvement, Toronto is tenth in the Eastern Conference table, claiming just five wins all season. Only the West’s bottom team, Sporting Kansas City, has won fewer games in America’s elite division this term.

Still, Fraser has brought the feel-good factor back to BMO Field, with the Canadians now pushing for a playoff spot. Toronto starts the weekend level on points with ninth-place Orlando City.

Tough Test Against Fire

Chicago is also on a five-game unbeaten run in MLS. However, after three consecutive wins, Gregg Berhalter’s boys have drawn back-to-back games with New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders.

Chicago is currently third in the Eastern standings, collecting 37 points from 21 games. Nashville is running away with the championship title, but Fire looks nailed on for a playoff spot.

These two teams last locked horns in Illinois in May, with Chicago running out 2-1 winners at Soldier Field.

The Men in Red have an excellent recent record against the Canadians, picking up five wins and three draws from the past eight MLS meetings.

Both teams will put their unbeaten runs on the line in Ontario this weekend, but who will come out on top at BMO Field?
