Toronto FC Falls Short in Nashville

Robin Fraser’s Toronto FC crashed to a 10th MLS defeat of the season on the weekend, losing to Eastern Conference leader Nashville SC.

Toronto’s playoff aspirations have been dealt another blow, but can the Canadian club bounce back against rival CF Montreal in their next MLS fixture?

Reds Brushed Aside in Nashville

Toronto headed to Tennessee having suffered back-to-back defeats to Orlando City SC and St. Louis City SC. Before that, the Reds were on a seven-game unbeaten run in MLS, winning three and drawing two.

Nashville is the standout soccer team in America this season, closing in on the Supporters’ Shield. The Boys in Gold have been faultless on their own patch, and the Coyotes eased past the Canadians at Geodis Park on Saturday.

It took the home team just 16 minutes to break through, with in-form Hany Mukhtar opening the scoring. The German added a second just before the break to give Nashville a comfortable 2-0 victory on home turf.

Canadian Classique Up Next for TFC

The Canadian Classique is always one to watch in MLS. Rivals Toronto and Montreal go head-to-head at BMO Field on October 10th.

Toronto heads into the derby on a three-match losing streak. Also, Fraser’s troops have picked up just one MLS victory in six.

Montreal has been in woeful form of late, recently suffering five straight MLS losses. Nevertheless, Philippe Eullaffroy’s men bounced back with a vital victory over FC Cincinnati last weekend, with Prince Owusu netting twice in a 3-1 home win.

The meeting in Quebec in July ended in a forgettable 0-0 draw. However, Montreal will still be hurting from the 6-1 home loss to Toronto in May 2025. The Reds have an excellent recent record in this derby, winning three and drawing two of the last five.

With both teams desperate for points, next month’s all-Canadian clash is huge for the pair, but who will come out on top in Ontario?
