Toronto Desperate to End Winless Run in New York
This Friday night, the under-pressure Robin Fraser takes Toronto FC to the Big Apple to face New York City FC at Yankee Stadium.
This is the final leg of a gruelling six-game away run in MLS, and the Reds are searching for their first victory on the road since March.
Tough Test in New York
New York City has won two on the bounce since returning from the 2026 FIFA World Cup break. Pascal Jansen’s team won 2-1 away at Columbus Crew before seeing off Chicago Fire by three goals to one at Yankee Stadium.
New York has sorted its home form out, winning the last two. Before that, the Pigeons lost three and drew two of five on home turf. Worryingly for Toronto, New York has scored six goals in its previous two games at Yankee Stadium.
Toronto Winless in 11
The pressure is mounting on Fraser, as Toronto is winless in 11 MLS matches. The Canadians have not tasted a victory since a 3-2 home win over Colorado Rapids in April.
After back-to-back goalless draws with CF Montreal and New England Revolution, Toronto suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to DC United last time out. The home team’s winning goal came in second-half stoppage time.
Fraser is on the brink of being fired, as the 49-year-old has the worst win percentage of any Toronto head coach in history. Fraser and his boys desperately need a positive result in the Bronx.

Friday night’s clash under the Big Apple lights will be the first meeting between the pair for over a year. In the last game back in July 2025, New York picked up a 3-1 victory over the Reds at Yankee Stadium. A few months earlier, City won 1-0 at BMO Field.
New York has an excellent recent record in this fixture, winning each of the last five MLS meetings. Toronto’s last league success was a 1-0 home victory back in April 2023.
