Vancouver Whitecaps and Los Angeles FC, the top two in the MLS Western Conference, played out a 1-1 draw at BC Place over the weekend.

The point kept the Caps at the summit on goal difference, leaving the championship battle wide open.

Muller the Hero for Vancouver

Two huge names were on the scoresheet in Vancouver as the Western Conference’s top two teams put on a show at BC Place.

Los Angeles would have leapfrogged Vancouver at the top with all three points in Canada, and the away side took the lead in the first period. Former Tottenham Hotspur man Son Heung-Min opened the scoring in the 37th minute.

LAFC's defence was proving difficult to penetrate, but the Caps rallied and equalized in the 76th minute. The experienced Thomas Muller slotted home from the penalty spot to give Vancouver a priceless point.

There was not a lot to separate these two evenly matched teams, and the 1-1 tie was just about the right result.

Caps Stay at the Summit

The pair have been two of the standout teams in the Western Conference this season, with both clubs taking 34 points. However, the advantage is with Vancouver, as Jesper Sorensen’s men have two games in hand on LAFC.

That said, the Blue-and-White are now winless in three MLS matches, taking just two points from a possible nine since returning from the 2026 FIFA World Cup break.

Sorensen’s side have won just one of the last five in MLS, with their last victory coming at San Diego FC in late May.

Before facing Houston Dynamo in their next MLS game in two weeks, the Caps take on Mexican side Atlante FC in Leagues Cup action midweek. The Canadians will be eager to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
