Lionel Messi Scores 4 Goals as Inter Miami Snaps CF Montreal’s Unbeaten Streak

CF Montreal's unbeaten streak came to an end in a bad way in a 7-1 road loss to Inter Miami, highlighted by four goals from Argentine legend Lionel Messi.

They entered the match with some momentum after three draws and a win in their previous four matches. Their last loss before the streak was at home, where they put up a fight, falling 1-0 to Inter Miami, who sit in second place in the Eastern Conference.

The Floodgates Open 

In the 7-1 loss to Inter Miami, Montreal conceded the first goal in the 20th minute, but things looked up when they evened the score with Fabian Herbers scoring in the 37th minute. Then the floodgates opened. Lionel Messi lined up for a free kick, which was deflected by Montreal defender Luca Petrasso, giving the home team a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the legend took over: Messi scored three goals and added an assist, and Inter Miami scored five in the 7-1 rout. It was the eighth time in Messi’s career that he had a hat trick plus one, and the first since 2020, when he was with Barcelona. The seven goals were the most that Inter Miami had ever scored.

A Match to Forget 

Montreal has to forget the bad loss in which they gave up seven goals and allowed 20 shots. Thomas Gillier played the whole match and gave up more goals than saves (5). In the loss, Noah Streit had an assist, and the goal by Herbers was his first of the season.

Montreal is now in 14th place in the Eastern Conference, only one point clear of the Columbus Crew, who are in the basement and whom they face at home on September 20. Montreal looks to regroup in their next match, where they are on the road against the Philadelphia Union this Saturday.
