FC Dallas is Charging the Whitecaps, Looking for Revenge

After Houston was chasing Vancouver for the top spot in the Western Conference for a long time, a new team has emerged to challenge the leader. FC Dallas is now in second place in the West, only three points behind the Whitecaps, and they are set on some revenge.

FC Dallas is Charging the Whitecaps

On August 22nd, FC Dallas was fifth in the West, and in their big match against the Whitecaps in Vancouver, they were embarrassed in a 5-0 loss, their worst of the season. However, instead of falling after the loss, Dallas has risen from the ashes like a phoenix. They are unbeaten in their last six matches with four wins and two draws. FC Dallas is now only three points behind Vancouver in the West but does not face them again in the regular season.

Whitecaps are Hanging On 

The Whitecaps are hanging on to lead the West, but they have been inconsistent lately, with two losses, two wins, and a draw in their last five matches. They have been Jekyll and Hyde in their last seven matches. In the four wins in that span, they kept four clean sheets, while in the two losses and one draw they conceded eight goals.

Giving it Up Pretty Late in the Last Match 

In the Whitecaps' last match hosting DC United on Saturday the 26th, three points looked good after Thomas Müller scored to give them a 3-2 lead in the 72nd minute. However, they conceded in the 80th minute, and Vancouver bagged only one point in the 3-3 draw.

While the Whitecaps dominated time of possession in the draw (63% to 37%), they only had one more shot on goal (9-8). Bruno Caicedo also scored, and Brian White did as well, keeping up his torrid form: he has scored a goal in four straight matches and has seven goals in seven matches.

Road Test  

If the Whitecaps are going to hold off the FC Dallas charge, they will have to do so away from home. Their next five matches are on the road, and in their next match they face the Chicago Fire FC, which sits fifth in the Eastern Conference.
