CF Montreal’s Woeful Form Continues with Another MLS Loss

Colorado Rapids heaped more misery on Philippe Eullaffroy and his CF Montreal players, winning 1-0 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

The Canadians have now suffered four MLS defeats on the bounce and have won just once in the league since May. Next weekend, Impact welcomes Columbus Crew to Saputo Stadium.

Dreadful Run Continues with Defeat in Colorado

Montreal’s miserable run continued with another disappointing MLS defeat on Saturday. Eullaffroy’s men would have wanted a positive result in Denver, but they left Dick’s Sporting Goods Park with nothing to show for their efforts.

It was a close encounter in Colorado, with one goal doing the business for the home team. Impact was two minutes away from going in level at the break, but Paxten Aaronson scored from the spot for the host in the 43rd minute.

Montreal huffed and puffed to no avail in the second period. The away side failed to break through, and the Rapids held on for a narrow 1-0 victory.

Can Impact Bounce Back in Midweek?

Since winning 2-1 at Columbus Crew in late August, the Canadians have picked up just one point from a possible 15 in the league.

Montreal drew 2-2 at home with LA Galaxy in the next one, but Eullaffroy’s troops have suffered successive defeats to Inter Miami, Philadelphia Union, Charlotte and Colorado.

Montreal sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table on just 21 points. The playoffs are a distant dream, as Impact is currently nine points behind ninth-place Philadelphia. Overall, the Quebec outfit has won five, tied six, and lost 14 of 25 MLS games.

Thankfully, Montreal does not have to wait too long for the next game. On Wednesday night, Le CFM hosts rival Vancouver Whitecaps in the second leg of the Canadian Championship semifinal. The semi is currently tied at 1-1.

Montreal returns to MLS action next weekend, facing Columbus at Stade Saputo. Can the host beat Crew again and end its poor winless streak in MLS?
