CF Montreal’s MLS winless streak stretched to eight games after the home draw with DC United.

Although the Canadians were desperate for maximum points, there were plenty of positives to take for Philippe Eullaffroy and his men. They travel to Columbus Crew in midweek, searching for a first MLS victory in over two months.

Impact Claims Fourth Tie in Six MLS Matches

Montreal’s winless run continued after a hard-fought 1-1 draw with DC United at Saputo Stadium. After a goalless first period, the game sprang into life when Prince Owusu scored from the spot five minutes after the break.

The Impact was headed for its first league victory since a 2-0 home triumph over Orlando City over two months ago. However, DC’s in-form striker Tai Baribo had other ideas.

The Israel international netted for a fifth successive MLS match to give the capital club a share of the spoils in Quebec.

Sean Johnson was in inspired form in the United net, making six saves to keep Montreal at bay. The home team huffed and puffed but could not find a way through.

Although the winless run extended to eight MLS matches, the performance was certainly a step in the right direction.

A Trip to Columbus Next Up for the Canadians

Montreal does not have to wait long for its next MLS match, as Eullaffroy’s troops travel to Ohio in midweek to face Columbus.

The Crew is only three points above Montreal in the current Eastern Conference standings, so the Canadians will fancy their chances of leaving ScottsMiracle-Gro Field with a positive result.

Columbus is in patchy form, winning just twice in MLS since April. On Saturday night, the Crew suffered a 3-1 away loss to Charlotte FC.

Montreal has not won away from home in MLS since an impressive 3-0 victory at New York Red Bulls in early March. After zero wins in eight league fixtures, Eullaffroy’s team desperately needs three points.
