Can Whitecaps Take Another Leap Towards Securing MLS Playoff Spot?

Vancouver Whitecaps FC got back to winning ways last weekend, taking another big step towards the MLS playoffs.

Jesper Sorensen’s Caps are looking to keep their momentum going when they welcome DC United to BC Place in MLS action this Saturday night.

Caps Back to Winning Ways

Vancouver has been in patchy form since returning to action from the 2026 FIFA World Cup break, winning just five of 11 MLS fixtures.

In their last home match, the Caps were beaten 2-1 by Austin FC, which was the team’s third home loss in five.

Sorensen’s troops bounced back with a convincing victory at Real Salt Lake last weekend. First-half goals from Brian White and Thomas Muller gave the Canadians a two-goal lead at the break.

Yadaly Diaby added another in the second period to give Vancouver a much-needed 3-0 win at America First Field.

Closing in on the Playoffs

Although not mathematically certain of a playoff spot, a top-nine finish in the Western Conference is all but confirmed. The Blue-and-White is flying high at the top of the West, 18 points above tenth-place San Diego FC.

It has been a fine season for the Canadians, as Sorensen’s team has won 15, drawn four, and lost six of 25 league games.

After last week’s results, Vancouver is five points clear of second-place Houston Dynamo FC, with only Nashville SC taking more points in the combined table.

Whitecaps welcome DC United to BC Place this Saturday. United is down in 11th in the East, and Vancouver is the red-hot favourite to rack up another three points.

Saturday’s matchup will be the Caps’ final home league fixture until late October, as the following five are on the road. Can they sign off for their travels with a big three points on home turf against America’s capital club?
