Can Vancouver Whitecaps Return to Winning Ways in Chicago?

Next Tuesday night, Vancouver Whitecaps FC faces Chicago Fire at Soldier Field in MLS action.

After being held to a 3-3 home draw by DC United last weekend, Jesper Sorensen’s Caps are looking to get back to winning ways as the playoffs approach.

Thrilling Six-Goal Draw Against DC

Vancouver went into the weekend’s game against DC United looking for all three points. However, the pair shared three each in a six-goal thriller at BC Place.

Whitecaps recovered from a poor start to take a 2-1 lead into half time. However, the home team was pegged back twice in the second period to drop a precious two points.

The Canadians have now won just two of their last five MLS matches, but they remain top of the Western Conference table on 50 points. Overall, Vancouver has won 15, tied five and lost six of 26 league games.

Chicago Up Next for Caps

Sorensen’s troops make the trip to Soldier Field next week. Chicago is looking to cement its place in the top seven in the East, and Gregg Berhalter’s boys are sitting pretty in fifth on 42 points.

Fire’s form has dipped in recent weeks, drawing four in a row before back-to-back defeats to New England Revolution and Nashville SC.

Nevertheless, they got back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory in Charlotte last weekend, with Johan Gomez scoring the only goal of the game at the Bank of America Stadium.

Vancouver picked up a 1-0 victory when these two teams last clashed in Chicago, with Brian White on target. However, Fire got revenge with a 3-1 win in Canada in March 2025.

Wins have been spread out, but there has been just one draw in this fixture in the last 11 meetings.

Vancouver has another week to recover from the topsy-turvy 3-3 draw with DC United. The next five games in MLS are all away from home, with the Caps’ next fixture at BC coming in late October.
