Can Montreal Avoid a Sixth Straight MLS Defeat?

CF Montreal is in dreadful form in MLS, suffering five successive losses and taking just one point from the last 18 on offer.

Impact faces FC Cincinnati at Saputo Stadium tonight. Philippe Eullaffroy’s men are looking for their first home victory since May, though FC Cincy could be a tough nut to crack.

Montreal Sits Bottom of East

Montreal is having a season to forget, suffering 15 defeats in 26 MLS games. The Canadians have picked up just five league wins and have conceded over 50 goals. Only Sporting Kansas City has accumulated fewer points in America’s top soccer league.

Impact has won just once in MLS since early May. Eullaffroy’s troops won one and drew three of four in August, but CFM has crashed to consecutive losses to Inter Miami CF, Philadelphia Union, Charlotte FC, Colorado Rapids, and Columbus Crew.

Last weekend’s 2-0 home loss to Crew compounded Montreal’s misery. After an even first half, Mohamed Farsi opened the scoring for the away team in the 57th minute, and Brais Mendez added a second shortly after.

Can Impact End the Streak?

Montreal welcomes Cincinnati to Saputo Stadium tonight. The Ohio team is clinging to the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference table, 12 points above Montreal.

The Orange and Blue are also in poor form at present, winless in five MLS matches. However, after heavy defeats to Nashville and Philadelphia, Pat Noonan’s men have drawn with Charlotte and Houston Dynamo FC in their last two.

Both teams are desperate for all three points in Quebec. Montreal does not want to be cut adrift at the foot of the Eastern table, while Cincinnati looks to nail down a playoff spot.

There were seven goals scored in a thriller when they last met in March, with Cincinnati running out 4-3 winners on home turf. We could be in for even more fireworks in Canada tonight.
