Montreal was in decent form before last weekend’s trip to Florida, unbeaten in four MLS games (one win, three draws).

However, the Canadians were embarrassed by Lionel Messi & Co. at Nu Stadium, with the Herons running out 7-1 winners after a stunning attacking performance on home turf.

Messi may have turned 39 during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but the Argentinian magician ran the show, scoring four goals in the rout. Casemiro, Luis Suarez, and Alexander Shaw were also on the scoresheet.

The loss in Miami was Montreal’s first MLS defeat since losing to the same opponent at Saputo Stadium in July. That one was far less humbling, as Inter scored late from the penalty spot to secure a narrow 1-0 victory.

Can Impact Put Things Right in Philly?

Montreal has had a week to get over the result, and Philippe Eullaffroy and his troops are ready to put things right today.

Although Montreal’s results have improved, the Quebec team has still only picked up one MLS win since May. A couple of weeks ago, Impact won 2-1 at Columbus Crew, with Prince Owusu and Noah Streit getting the goals.

Worryingly for Montreal, Philadelphia is one of the form teams in America, undefeated in MLS since returning from the World Cup break, picking up five wins and two draws from seven. Interim boss Ryan Ritcher is doing a sensational job at Subaru Park.

Montreal would have picked an easier opponent after last week’s debacle, but Eullaffroy will be demanding a positive response from his players in Philly.
